Life in Scarborough harbour and by the sea

1934 : In the Tunny season of 1934 Major Rowley caught 8 big fish. The largest was 812lb. The biggest tunny was exhibited on the Foreshore with proceeds going to a local charity. He had to 'fight the fish' for 48 minutes. He used to fly a flag on his boat for each fish caught. He was a highly accomplished big game angler.

1935:The origonal Coronia was bought by trawler owner, Jack Ellis. It sailed into port in 1935 under the command of Captain Sydney Smith, former deputy harbour master. He wanted to name the pleasure cruiser after his favorite cigar. However a ship was already named the Corona - so he altered it to Coronia.

1983 Scarborough local David Eves became cook on the Royal Yacht Brittania. He would be responsible for many members of the Royal Family including Prince Charles and Princess Diana. He would not be cooking for the Queen however, as she always takes her own staff aboard.
