You may recall our visit to the Scarborough Maritime Heritage Centre a few weeks ago to enquire about the whereabouts of a portrait of Spouse Godfrey Sheader which we believe used to hang in the old Lifeboat Station before it was rebuilt. The picture originally hung in St Sepulchre Street Chapel and was given to the RNLI when the chapel was demolished. As well as being a very well known Scarborough Fisherman, Spouse had also served as a lifeboatman for over 40 years prior to his death in 1930.
When we visited we mentioned that we had been drawing up a Sheader family tree and you said you would like to have a copy for your records. We're sorry it has taken us a bit longer to sort out than we had originally intended and hope you find the information of interest.
Although we have made every effort to ensure that the family tree is correct, it can be difficult sometimes to sort out precise relationships when families were large and the same Christian names were regularly used. Should any current members of the Sheader family have any information they wish to add (or change) to the family tree, feel free to pass on our email address and we would be pleased to hear from them.
