Stained glass window with town seal

In 2015 the SMHC acquired a stained glass window from the old Conservative Club on Huntriss Row that was being converted into a Premier Inn. The window was made in 1888 and has survived two world wars. It has a few cracks and was covered in black nicotine after all the years of pipe, cigarette and cigar smoking that went on there. After a good clean it was mounted in our window.

The town seal depicted was used as a stamp with sealing wax to secure documents and add the official status of the borough to documents. It depicts a castle and a ship, that has been the story of Scarborough since the medieval period.
