John Setterington's 1753 image

One of the best images of old Scarborough is John Setterington's sketch from 1753. It shows all the important buildings in Scarborough, the ship yards, the first bathing machines, the harbour walls and even men swimming naked!

The oldest image we have of Scarborough is the one below from 1538 showing a set of gallows just outside the town walls that ran where St Thomas's Street is now.
