?Bull attacks young lady near Helmsley

Miss Irvine, a young lady, was out walking at Dunscombe park, near Helmsley, accompanied by her collie dog. The grazing cattle resented the prescence of the dog and rushed at it.

Miss Irvine, seeing the bullocks dashing madly towards her, sought safety in flight, but her dog following after her, drew the cattle on her heels, and there was nothing for it but to plunge into the River Rye, in order to get out of danger on the further bank. The river is fairly deep and the terrified lady had a struggle to get out on the other side. This she did, but her dog following, drew the cattle over also, and she had again to cross the river, and this time she was so exhuasted that she could only struggle forward a short distance and then fell to the ground almost unconscious. The terrified young lady was found lying on the ground some time afterwards by Mrs King. By prompt restorative measures they brought Miss Irving back to consciousness, and with help carried her to the Dunscombe Park mansion, where her wet clothes were removed. She eventually recovered from the shock.
