Easter tragedy. Fatal accident at Peasholme lake.
Tragedy marred the easter holiday at scarborough. On Sunday afternoon, a car driven by Herbert Elliott, a visitor, from Huddesfield, knocked down Mr JG Grainger and his wife Ada Grainger. They were crossing the road near Peasholme when they received injuries which were fatal. The motorist is said to have sounded his horn and the two pedestrians apparently hesitated twice on the road before the car collided with them. The nearside front wheel was resting on Mr Granger when the car was brought to a Mrs Ganger was between the front and back wheels.
The coroner stated "as to wether the driver was guilty of such negligence as to occasion the death of that unfortunate lady, and there was also the question of whether he was driving at an excessive speed and keeping a proper look out.
Mr GB Parker on behalf of Mr Elliott, the driver of the car, and his companions, expressed their very great regret at this most unfortunate accident and their greatest sympathy with Mr Granger and the relatves of Mrs Granger. Mr Elliott was so upset that he was too nervous to drive his car now,
